Justification
In Lima we found 30% of the population. This population provides drinking water mainly from surface water and groundwater of the Rio Rimac, Chillon and Lurin, the first that brings in the majority. We know that one of the effects of climate change in Peru is the shortage of water due to deglaciation, adding the mining concessions in the headwaters of river threatens the sustainability of the city of Lima.
The result of the Water Quality Monitoring for Human Consumption with citizen participation in various areas of Lima - Rimac Basin yields several points of impact, which deserves our reflection and active participation as civil society to assume a d-level monitoring of coliform contamination and metals that affect our quality of life on the water consumption in the city of Lima. This study reflects the situation of the other basins as Chillon and Lurin, supplying the city of Lima and Callao.
For the drinking water that reaches the city is of better quality and quantity, it is necessary to make a comprehensive and integrated management and participatory watershed, developing a set of actions to reduce or eliminate sources of pollution, also taking action as: Recovery of the watershed reforestation, protection of river banks and a new culture of water.
One of the actions we are developing is about raising awareness to have a new culture of water with the "Campaign for the 10,000 commitments in the water" by a group led by civil society. This new culture reflects ancestral practices and technologies for the management and care of water, the rite of yakumama, with payment to the mother water, ancient ceremony that brings water from the sea to the highland lakes for which, according to the belief ancient Peruvians to ensure normal flow of water. The daily practice to rethink our fresh water wasted in the activities of personal hygiene, washing clothes and food, among other, the discriminate use of water that develops productive industry, quarrying and agriculture. The care of water is a common task. |
